There is so much publicity these days about the Internet-based voice communications
(VoIP) instead of traditional telephone services. Most of this revolves around companies such as VONAGE coin, which describes itself as “Broadband Phone Company”. So what about those of us who do not have broadband? Just because you do not have high-speed Internet does not mean that you can save a fortune by using VoIP for your long-distance calls. While a broadband connection is usually lead to more consistent VoIP call quality, comparable results can be achieved through a dial-up connection provided some simple guidelines are followed.

Not all VoIP service provider supports dial-up users. Companies such as VONAGE bill themselves as alternatives to traditional telephone services and is Dial-up community (committed to these “traditional” networks for Internet access). In addition, some service providers only support dial-up beyond a certain speed (eg 56Kbp). Two companies whose applications VoIP softphone works well over low speed connections include Callserve and Go2Call.
