AT&T Navigator is very similar to Sprint Navigation (both were created by TeleNav), but it offers more features than the other cell GPS services I tried, including a pedestrian mode, support for creating waypoints (stops along a route), instant weather reports, and traffic commute alerts.
I tested AT&T Navigator, along with Sprint Navigation and VZ Navigator, on BlackBerry Curve handsets. All of these apps and services are very accurate, and give driving directions with minimal hassle.

Note that a cell phone GPS application offers varying functions depending on your phone’s capabilities; on a regular clamshell, the app might not be as full-featured as it is on a BlackBerry. Remember too that such applications’ GPS functions rely on your cell carrier’s network, so you won’t be able to play with them if you’re headed off-road and out of range.

Back in the days before USB 2.0, I was tempted to start every backup article with the same dumb joke: “Backing up is hard to do.”

Luckily, easy backups don’t require USB If you have broadband Internet access (DSL or cable). Just back up over the Internet. I recommend Mozy Home for the best and easiest backup for the price ($5 a month).

But if you’re accessing the Internet through dial-up, you’ll need to supplement your old hardware with more old hardware. Buy an internal or parallel port-based external backup drive with removable media such as tape or disk cartridges. Iomega’s Zip drives, which use disk-based cartridges, were quite popular ten years ago (I recently found some of the disks while cleaning out my garage). Iomega still makes and sells Zip drives, although the modern external ones use USB. But as I write this, five used parallel port Zip drives are on sale through Amazon.com.

You might also want to consider a DVD+/-RW drive to replace what I’m going to guess is your CD-ROM drive. These are still commonly made and reasonably inexpensive, and the discs are very cheap.

Email your technology questions to me at answer@pcworld.com, or post them to a community of helpful folks on the PCW Answer Line forum.

It appears, in fact, the iPhone would block and slowdowns during telephone calls and Internet navigation. Bug-related, according to unofficial sources, such a chip in the terminal and produced by Infineon. The motivation of the blocks and slowdowns, then, would be due to a poorly configured of that chip, pointing more to navigation EDGE also in the territories covered by the third generation networks and HSDPA, making the connection jump from the high-speed lines to choose the 2.5 G.

New model with keyboard slide for the South Korean manufacturer Samsung Electronics: This is SPH-W3300, which will be launched, at least for now, in the home market alone. Again briefly technical specifications at our disposal the terminal in question: this is a GSM device with support for networks of third generation W-CDMA (in other sources we talk of support for HSDPA networks with a maximum speed of 3, 6 Mnps).

The display is an LCD QVGA by 2 inches with over 260 thousand colors. There is a camera from 1.3 million pixels, complete with digital zoom and with the possibility to make even videos. There is even a second front VGA camera designed mainly for videotelephone. It features an MP3 player and a video player compatible with the popular formats in the mobile environment. The battery life ranges from about 7 hours in stand-by up to a maximum of 190 hours if kept in stand by.

Worth noting also the presence of Bluetooth connectivity and an expansion slot for microSD The design must follow the terminal with keyboard sliding on the market, with elegant lines but decided and the size contained. The Samsung SPH W3300 will be sold exclusively by the company KTF mobile Korea.
